What are you working on right now?
I'm assuming you mean musically so. I'm working on re-working some older songs, considering different approaches for them. Some were previously recorded, some just demos. Most of them have been in rotation for live shows for many years on and off. I'm paring down my big band back to a 4 man outfit hoping that will help breathe some new life into things.

Recently, 5 months ago, I retired from being a musician, which I had quirkily and mindfully lived from 1977 until March 2017 (14 until 54 years old). So, working on adjusting to a very huge shift in my world.
At the beginning of this year, though, I was prepping press, radio, tv appearances, social media, website, distribution, booking dates for in-stores and performance and all the odds and ends necessary for the release of “Lifeline”, the debut album by [daughter] Lili Blessing on my label Sleeveless, which arrived March 18.
As for right this very second, I am working on collecting my ideas, stories, music, etc to create an audio book about my career, loves, goofy and serious experiences. I’ve, also, opened a B&B in Matagorda Bay (Palacios, TX) and having fun with that.

What’s surprisingly easy about it?
the actual writing, often my biggest challenge, has flowed easily. I have more material than I can put on one record.

My new record "Folk Hotel," comes out in a few weeks and we've working on a book of lyrics, folk stories, and art that will be published this week. Now it's back to a music memoir I'm writing for a London agent. Also painting everyday - and I paint a lot of portraits of my favorite folk musicians! Some will be in the book. Then our "world tour" starts in a few weeks at Passim's in Cambridge and rolls across the USA. All dates on www.tomrussell.com
I also had an Ian and Sylvia Tribute of mine come out on True North Records in May and it's done quite well on Folk DJ Radio. So there's much on our plate this year.
