The music business as we know it is changing in fundamental ways. This is the newest installment in a regular series of short conversations with musicians about their lives and work.
What are you working on right now?
Writing, preparing, and raising funds for the next Charlie Faye & The Fayettes record!
What’s surprisingly easy about it?
I'm more in touch with what I want creatively than I was the first time around. I have more confidence in my writing and the direction I want to go in musically. Also, as far as crowdfunding goes, we have a great loyal fan base who are really excited to hear this new record and happy to get on board with the crowdfunding -- and that makes a huge difference.
What’s frustrating/harder than you thought it would be?
The hardest thing is switching back and forth between the business stuff and the creative stuff. If I start off the day focused on promoting the Pledge campaign, I'll have a hard time switching into writing mode. And vice-versa. I really have to separate the time I spend in creative vs. business mode, and set aside time to devote to each.
What project/album from your back catalog is the most relevant today?
The first Charlie Faye & The Fayettes album, for sure.
What’s next?
We go into the studio in October to start tracking the record! If you want to get a behind-the-scenes look at the process, contribute any amount to our pledge campaign and you'll get an Access Pass to exclusive video footage from the studio and more. Or you can follow us on Facebook for regular updates!
