Hey, fellow heat stroke victims -
This Friday August 17th is the last Secret Supper for awhile, as I’m hunkering down to finish writing and complete preproduction on my new album. Edible Ojai was kind enough to run my article about these suppers. You can read it here.
So! I hope you’ll join JB White, Charlie Bosson and me for an evening of food and songs about and by Elvis. We will dig below the surface of the man with works by Gillian Welch, John Trudell, Jesse Winchester and, of course, Paul Simon.

And we will dig below the surface of the food Elvis loved, with re-engineered versions of his favorites. For example, instead of fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, we are having:
Velvet Elvis cocktail
Black-Eyed Pea Crostini with raisins and wilted greens
Peanut Soup with Plantain Croutons
Sweet Potato Biscuits with Ham, Arugula and Basil Blackberry Balsamic Drizzle
Marinated Collard Green Salad
Chess Pie
Suggested pairing: a light white like a Sauvignon Blanc or an IPA would be nice. I’ll have ice for you to put your bottles in.
It’s the usual: $40 at the door, made out to “Fractured Atlas,” includes cocktail, dinner and the show. BYOB if you’d like wine or beer with dinner.
Hit me back to reserve your spot. We’re going to eat under the trees, because it’s just too damn hot to be inside.
Hope to see you there!
XO,
Rain
P.S. For those of you who would still like to participate in my “Icing on the Cake” Kickstarter campaign and all its fun prizes, it closes this Saturday! It’s not too late to get in on the cookies, pasta sauce, personalized concerts and Guerilla trip to Disneyland. Click here for all the details!

From the most recent Secret Supper, Academy Awards Edition, Rain and Tom don’t let a broken string deter them from embracing the Oscar-winning song with gusto.

Here’s video #1 from the Secret Songwriter Supper: Academy Awards Edition, featuring Tom Corbett and myself. I served food representing each nominated feature and we sang songs from movies. Fun!!!

29 Palms Inn is calling me, my dorky casio keyboard, my blue Autoharp, my iPad and my bulging file of random song ideas. Thank you, Secret Supper attendees…you’ve made this possible!
I’ve been encouraging others to write for quite a while. Now it’s my turn!! Yes!

Happy New Year, everyone!
This is a quick update regarding the Secret Songwriter Suppers. The Christmas show was so much fun, with festive holiday food and quirky songs sung by Santa Hat-clad musicians JB White, Charlie Bosson and me. I have pictures which I’ll post next week. Also, I have an article coming out about the suppers in the Edible Ojai magazine. Watch for it this month!
Upon reflection, I see that every other month is probably the most realistic schedule for the suppers. So the previously announced January dinner will not be happening. Instead, Julie Christensen and I will entertain you later this Spring. Besides, Julie has a new album coming out right then, and instead of coming to a Supper, you should go see her sing her collection of brand new amazing songs!
So! The next Secret Supper will be the Academy Awards Edition, with food inspired by the yet-to-be-announced nominated films. I will be singing bluegrass versions of songs from movies with multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Tom Corbett! Very excited about this one.
The date is February 24th – the Friday before the Academy Awards, so mark your calendars!
If you haven’t come to a Secret Supper yet, you are in for a treat. We are having a lot of fun, and the secret is starting to get out…
