Yes, I’m a big sucker, but I loved “Music and Lyrics.” I loved the 80′s music video, loved the pop songstress with her giant Buddha, was tickled that they showed Protools onscreen–and was horrified to see myself and my friends as EXACTLY THE SAME AGE as the moms swooning over Hugh Grant’s character! It was just as predictable and silly and cute as I expected.

What I’m listening to this morning:
Erin McKeown‘s “We Will Become Like Birds” is SO GOOD. She’s more talented than Jack White and just a little thing with music just pouring out of her – go see her live if you can.
Dolly Parton: “Just Because I’m a Woman.” Dolly is a great songwriter, which people forget. Many wonderful songs on this album, but most striking is the very first live performance of “Coat of Many Colors.” The crowd’s response is awesome.
Joan Armatrading – self titled. She’s an incredible guitarist and great songwriter and should be more known these days than she is.
Pretenders – well, nothing needs to be said.

Okay, I’m a little slow on the uptake. I now understand that “get up on it” is the feminine equivalent of “get down on it.” Doh.

Alright: as a mom, I listen to the radio CONSTANTLY, and there is something that is really bugging me right now. I am so sick of everybody letting each other “get up on it” all the time. Why can’t they at least get up on “me?” But no, it’s “come check up on IT” and “I’m gonna let you work up on IT” and “Mizz New Booty – get it together and bring IT back to me” (never mind “Dip it, pop it, twirk it, stop it…”)
Twirk it?
What is up with this use of the word “IT?” AAAARRRGGGHHHH!

Couple musical suggestions – have you heard Sufjan Stevens’ “Come on Feel the Illinoise?” He has to be one of the most creative people I’ve ever encountered. It’s a song cycle all about Illinois that is just so weird and cool. He also did Michigan.
Apparently he plans on doing all the states, although I hope he has some signficant funding, because fifty albums requiring massive amounts of research is going to require some time and money! But check it out – this album is really, really, wonderful.
Also, I’ve been listening to Matt the Electrician.
He opened for Bob Schneider at the Roxy a couple of weeks ago and was GREAT! I guess there is no lack of incredible musicians from Austin.
